Journey as an 8-season Pro Cheerleader, 49ers Cheerleaders and Warriors Dance Team

Bria takes us through her 8-year dance journey in the pro dance and pro cheer industry. She spent 7 seasons as an NFL cheerleader with the 49ers Cheerleaders. She was a cheer captain and selected pro bowl cheerleader. After spending 7 seasons as an NFL cheerleader, she decided she was not quite ready to retire her dance career and took a leap faith out of her comfort zone. She made the transition to becoming an NBA dancer and finished her pro dance career with the Warriors dance team. She spent one season with the Warriors Dancers, where she decided it was time to retire the poms!

She is sharing her story, auditioning journey, experience in NFL cheerleading and NBA dancing, transitioning between leagues as a dancer, and taking chances on your dreams!

DANCE AND CHEERLEADING BACKGROUND:

I grew up dancing, cheering, and competing in Song Pom.

A couple of years into college I auditioned for the 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleaders and spent 7 seasons cheering there. After that, I auditioned for the Golden State Warriors dance team and spent 1 season dancing with them.

Now, I am a represented dancer in Los Angeles, dabbling in the commercial dance industry!

What was your favorite thing about dancing for both the NFL and NBA?

Obviously dancing on such a large platform is amazing, but the friendships that I have made through those pro dance teams is what I value the most.

Having those experiences with life-long friends is truly unforgettable.

Biggest piece of advice to aspiring pro cheerleaders and pro dancers?

Perseverance will get you far - both while you are chasing the dream and once you make it.

Something that you want to share with current NFL cheerleaders and NBA dancers that you wish you knew or could tell yourself back then?

Live in moment!

One day it will be just a memory. Enjoy the opportunity to do what you love and do not sweat the small stuff.

Also - you are amazing, talented, and valuable with or without the dance uniform! I think we sometimes make our teams a huge part of our identities and have a tough time retiring when the time comes.

Invest in yourself and your other goals outside of the dance team or cheerleading team. It is so important.

Biggest piece of advice to dancers thinking about transitioning between leagues or nervous about starting over with a new dance or cheer team?

Do not be afraid to fail.

You will never know if you don’t try. Do not allow fear to determine your next steps in your dance career.

Most importantly, do not get too big of an ego, where you are unable to humble yourself and try something new. Seek help and advice from the team members, prepare for the audition, and go for it!

Love hearing from your favorite professional dancers and professional cheerleaders throughout the NFL, NBA, and more?
